Restore Your Smile and Oral Health with Dental Implants in Milton

A restorative procedure with an up to 98% success rate, dental implants are basically titanium screws that resemble artificial tooth roots.

These implants are implanted into the jaw to merge and become one with the bone through a process called “osseointegration” - to then later support an artificial replacement crown (tooth). Together, the artificial dental root and crown create a stable dental restoration that both looks and feels very much like a natural tooth, and even has the potential to last a lifetime with adequate care.

Is dental implant surgery painful?

A dental implant procedure should never be painful. It is routine for the dentist or surgeon to first administer a topical anesthetic to the area of treatment, possibly along with any other necessary form of sedation to ensure a comfortable, pain-free and relaxing treatment experience for the patient.

A typical dental implant procedure explained

Contrary to what you might believe, dental implant surgery is actually quite simple. The procedure often only requires two visits to complete, taking an average of 1-2 hours. During a typical procedure, a small hole is first created in the bone along with some incisions made into the gum tissue for better visualization of the bone. Next, the area is drilled and further prepared to allow for a precise fit of the implant.

The dental implant is then placed, with the site is closed or stitched during the final stage. The patient will undergo a healing phase in which the implant will merge with the jaw for the next 3 to 6 months following surgery.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

You are most likely a candidate for dental implants if your gums and bone are in good condition. However, there are certain health conditions such as diabetes that might have an impact on the success of the implant bonding with the jawbone. Our dentist in Milton will be able to provide an evaluation to determine whether dental implants would be an ideal choice for you.

Proper implant care at home is the key to long-term success

Just like when it comes to caring for our natural teeth, dental implants should also be cleaned twice daily for at least two minutes each time using a soft-bristled tooth brush, with daily flossing also important.

Patients with dental implants should also ensure that they go for routine check-up and cleanings at the dentist’s (recommended at every 6 months or as required). There are also certain dental cleaning tools or techniques you may be recommended to use for proper implant hygiene care.
