Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) at Southview Dental

Making dental care more accessible and affordable for you and your family.

Southview Dental is proud to be an official provider of the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)—a new federal government program designed to help Canadians access quality dental care. If you don’t have private dental insurance and meet the eligibility requirements, you may qualify for coverage under the CDCP. The program provides assistance for a wide range of dental services, helping everyone receive the care they need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The CDCP is a federal government program that provides coverage for a variety of dental services to eligible Canadians who do not have access to private dental insurance. The plan is now open to all eligible Canadians, regardless of age.

Who is eligible for CDCP?

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a Canadian resident
  • Have an annual household income under $90,000
  • Not have access to any private dental insurance
  • Have filed your income taxes for the previous year

What services are covered?

The CDCP covers a broad range of oral health services, including preventive, diagnostic, restorative, and prosthodontic care. Some examples of covered services include:

  • Dental exams (complete, routine, specific, and emergency)
  • X-rays
  • Cleanings (scaling)
  • Fluoride treatments and sealants
  • Fillings (temporary and permanent)
  • Root canals
  • Extractions
  • Denture services (full and partial, repairs, relines)
  • Crowns (with prior approval)
  • Oral surgery (including removal of teeth, cysts, and minor jaw procedures)
  • Sedation or anesthesia (some types require preauthorization)

Coverage is based on the CDCP fee guide and some services may require preauthorization. The CDCP will likely pay a portion of your total cost, not the full amount.

Are there any out-of-pocket costs?

The program uses a co-payment model based on your household income:

  • $0 co-pay for households under $70,000
  • 40% co-pay for incomes between $70,000–$79,999
  • 60% co-pay for incomes between $80,000–$89,999

PLEASE NOTE: The CDCP follows its own fee guide, which is lower than our standard office fees. As a result, there will always be a portion of the cost not covered by the plan that patients are responsible for paying.

How do I apply for the CDCP?

Applications are handled through Service Canada. If you're eligible, you’ll receive an acceptance package and benefits card from Sun Life, who manages the program.
